Bears Rout Volcanoes, 12-2

KEIZER, Ore. - Konrad Schmidt homered and drove in a career-high four runs as visiting Yakima cruised past Salem-Keizer, 12-2, on Thursday.

Schmidt stroked a run-scoring single in the fourth inning and delivered an RBI groundout in the sixth before launching a two-run blast, his fourth, in the eighth.

The 22-year-old catcher has homered in two of his last three games.

Clayton Conner went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, his fourth, in the first for the Bears (14-23).

Michael Mee ripped a two-run double in the seventh, Aaron Hanke scored three times and Joseph Batten and Joseph Ayers each knocked in a run.

Yakima starter Joshua Collmenter (2-2) surrendered a run on four hits and a walk with five strikeouts in six innings.

Volcanoes starter Craig Clark (3-2) yielded four runs on four hits and two walks with five strikeouts in five frames.

Jason Neitz was roughed up for six runs on eight hits with two strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings.

Sharlon Schoop went 2-for-4 with an RBI single in the fifth and Bruce Edwards had an RBI groundout in the ninth for Salem-Keizer (30-7), which lost for just the second time in its last 12 games.
