Salem-News.com Sports

BOISE, Id. - The Salem-Keizer Volcanoes beat the Boise Hawks Saturday night, 7-5. Bobby Felmy’s fifth inning two run home run off Jeremy Papelbon broke a 5-5 tie and was the difference in the game making a loser out of Boise starter Alfredo Francisco (4-1).

D.J. Lewis hit his third home run of the season in the second inning off Salem-Kaiser starter Kevin Pucetas to get the scoring under way for Boise.

Elvin Puello later drove in Steve Clevenger who had a double and a triple on the night. Tyler Colvin had an RBI single in the third inning, but after Lewis brought Colvin in with the fourth Hawks run Steve Calicutt came in from the bullpen and no-hit the Hawks for three and a third innings.

Ryan Paul followed with two shutout innings before Clevenger got his triple in the ninth and scored on a ground out. Paul then got the final out to record the save.

The Hawks have lost two games in a row for the first time since dropping two in a row to Yakima on July 8th and 9th.

That was also he last time the Hawks have lost a series.

The loss dropped Boise to 23-17, while Salem-Keizer improved to 27-13.
