Witter Home Run Stuns Boise

BOISE, ID - The Salem-Keizer Volcanoes stunned the Boise Hawks Friday night, 5-3 in the first game of a five game series between the top two teams in the Northwest League.

Adam Witter, who entered the game in the sixth inning as a pinch hitter and tagged reliever Alex Maestri for an RBI single, hit a two-run home run off the Hawks reliever in the top of the ninth inning to give the Volcanoes a margin of victory.

The Hawks erased a 3-0 deficit with a three run rally in the sixth inning.

Josh Lansford and Russ Canzler had RBI singles and D.J. Lewis drove in the tying run with a ground out to even the score.

But after Brett Pill was hit by a pitch too start the ninth inning for the Volcanoes, Witter connected with his fifth home run of the season to put the Volcanoes on top for good.

Salem-Keizer starter Adam Cowart, who entered Friday's game leading the league with a 6-0 record and 0.46 ERA, worked out of jams in the fourth and fifth innings to leave with a 1-0 lead

After starting the season 2-9, Boise has won 21 of its past 28 games.

The loss dropped Boise to 23-16, while Salem-Keizer improved to 26-13.
