CORVALLIS - Oregon State University senior football student-athletes Matt Moore, Joe Newton and Sabby Piscitelli, and junior Yvenson Bernard have been named the 2006 team captains, head coach Mike Riley announced Friday. Moore started 10 games at quarterback in his first season at OSU in 2005, before suffering a season-ending knee injury. The 6-4 Valencia, Calif., native passed for 2,711 yards last year and his 271.1 average per game ranked second in the Pac-10. Newton is a 6-7 tight end from Roseburg. He missed all of the 2005 season with a leg injury after leading the Pac-10 Conference in 2004 for receptions by a tight end with 56. He had seven receptions for 85 yards and two touchdowns in the `04 Insight Bowl victory over Notre Dame, and was selected the ESPN Player of the Game. Piscitelli has played in 36 career games at Oregon State at strong safety, including starting the last 23. He is a two-time Honorable Mention All-Pac-10 Conference selection and enters the year with 113 career tackles and 17 pass deflections. The 6-3 Boca Raton, Fla., native is also the conference`s active leader for interceptions with 10. Bernard, also from Boca Raton, rushed for 1,321 yards and 13 touchdowns last season. He earned Honorable Mention All-Pac-10 Conference after finishing ninth in the nation with an average of 120.1 rushing yards per game. Oregon State opens its 13-game regular season schedule Thurs., Aug. 31st against the Eastern Washington Eagles at Reser Stadium.
