No. 8 Beavers Get a Day to Shake Off Loss Before Playing Georgia

Salem-News.com Sports

OMAHA, Neb. - Oregon State had a day away from the College World Series on Sunday, giving the No. 8-ranked Beavers a chance to spend some time with their families and see the sights of Omaha. OSU lost its opener in the CWS on Saturday night, falling to Miami 11-1.

“Tonight was bad,“ OSU catcher Mitch Canham said after that game. “Monday will be better.“

Oregon State will play Georgia on Monday at 1:00 PM in a loser-out game. The contest can be seen on the ESPN cable network, and all of OSU`s games in the CWS can be heard on KEJO-AM (1240) in the Corvallis area, KUIK-AM (1360) in the Portland area, KKNX-AM (840) in the Eugene area, KRNR-AM (1490) in the Roseburg area, KMED-AM (1440) in the Medford area, KICE-AM (940) in the Bend area and KNPT-AM (1310) in the Newport area.

With no game Sunday, the Beavers were guests at a team brunch and then practiced for just over an hour at Creighton. Afterward, OSU head coach Pat Casey took a last look at the loss to Miami and pointed toward Monday`s game against Georgia.

“As a team, we felt we played as poorly as we could play,“ Casey said. “I don`t think it was a lack of effort, but we played poorly and we didn`t do the things we normally do. For our club to do the things we want to offensively, we have to get baserunners on. We didn`t get guys on, and we put to many (Miami) guys on, and we just didn`t play the way we`re capable of playing, and it`s tough when that happens in the College World Series.

“But I`m not down on our club. We`re disappointed, because we`re a better club than that.“
