SALEM, Ore. - A pair of high school seniors -- David Anderson (Salem, Ore.) from nearby South Salem High School and Travis Wells (Springfield, Ore.) from Thurston High School -- have inked Letters of Intent to play men's soccer for second-year head coach Dave Irby and run track for second-year head coach Norm Berney next season. So far this summer, Irby has signed four men's soccer players for next season, while this is the first official signings for the track program at Corban heading into its second year of existence. Anderson, who is the son of current Corban Bible & Theology professor and avid Warrior "FAN"-atic Tim Anderson, was a member of the South Salem boys' soccer team that advanced to the 6A state semifinals this past season and was named honorable mention All-Central Valley Conference. A four-year member of the Saxon track team, Anderson was the 2007 conference champion in the 300-meter hurdles, while finishing second in the Central Valley Conference in the 110-meter hurdles. At the state meet, Anderson finished 6th in the 110-meter high hurdles and 7th in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles. Wells comes to Corban following a career at Thurston High School, where he was a four-year member of the soccer team and ran track for one season. The 5-foot-11 forward was named 1st team all-league as a senior and 3rd team all-league as a junior, while being named team captain and earning the team's Most Valuable Player award. Wells led the league in scoring his junior season and helped Thurston advance to the state playoffs. Despite competing for only one season in track, Wells earned 1st team all-league honors in the mile relay and 2nd team all-league accolades in the 400-meter, while winning the Most Outstanding Rookie Award and competing at the state meet as a senior. Both Anderson and Wells join fellow men's soccer recruits Collin Box (Salem, Ore.), Brendan McCornack (Moses Lake, Wash.), and Aaron Paulson (St. Helens, Ore.) as members of the Class of 2011. The men's soccer team kicks off the 2007 season against Cascade Collegiate Conference member Northwest Christian on Friday, August 31st, in the annual Soccer Under the Lights game beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Warrior Field before traveling to Southern California to take part in the annual Cougar Classic hosted by Azusa Pacific University on Friday and Saturday, September 7th & 8th. Meanwhile, the Corban track team will compete in its second full season during the spring of 2008 with the Warriors' schedule still to be determined.
