MONMOUTH, Ore. - Western Oregon University coaches and administrators have selected baseball standout Kevin Corrigan and all-star basketball player Leada Berkey as the 2006-07 WOU male and female Marquis Spas Athletes of the Year.

Corrigan and Berkey were selected from a pool of Marquis Spas Athletes of the Year from each WOU team in 2006-07.

Both received all-conference and all-region honors in their respective sports.

Kevin Corrigan led the baseball Wolves at the plate and on the pitching mound this year.

The Kent, Wash. native paced WOU with a .367 batting average, nine home runs and 35 RBI, while also serving as the team’s No. 1 pitcher in the starting rotation.

The senior had a 6-3 record and a 3.61 ERA, earning first team All-Great Northwest Athletic Conference honors as a pitcher and second team as a first baseman.

Corrigan was honored for his dual role by being named to the first team of the Daktronics All-West Region team as a utility player.

The right-hander helped lead the Wolves to a seventh consecutive conference title and a 15th consecutive winning season.

Leada Berkey had one of the finest women’s basketball seasons in WOU school history this year, averaging over 21 points a game and nine rebounds a contest.

She ranked in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference top 10 in six categories, and scored 30 or more points in six different games. She broke the GNAC record for most points in a season, and ranked 11th nationally in scoring.

A three-year starter for WOU and now a two-time Marquis Spas Athlete of the Year award winner, the junior forward from Amity, Ore. was a Daktronics and Kodak first team All-West Region selection, and she also was an honorable mention Division II Bulletin All-American.
