Jun-30-2009 16:01Scott Meredith Named New Women’s Basketball Coach at Oregon TechSalem-News.com SPORTSLast season Meredith was the girl’s basketball varsity head coach at Fortuna High School, leading the team to a 25-5 overall record.
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - Oregon Tech Athletic Director Michael Schell has announced the hiring of Scott Meredith as the new head coach of the women’s basketball program. Meredith beat out a very strong field of 127 applicants. Schell said, “Scott is a good hire for Oregon Tech. He will take our women’s program to new heights. Scott beat out some great candidates from across the country.” Meredith has coached basketball for 29 seasons, 19 of those with women’s teams. He has been a head coach for 23 seasons and spent 6 seasons as an assistant at the California Junior College level, NCAA Division I and Division II levels which included stints at Humboldt State University and Santa Clara University. Last season Meredith was the girl’s basketball varsity head coach at Fortuna High School, leading the team to a 25-5 overall record. Meredith has an overall win percentage of .764 with a record of 152-47 as a head coach with four Big 5 League championships and a 48-8 record in conference play. Meredith said, “I would like to thank Dr. Maples, Dr. Foley, Michael Schell, as well as Mike Garrard and the search committee for the opportunity to join the staff at Oregon Tech and lead the women’s' basketball program. I look forward to working with Coach Miles and learning about the game from his perspective. I am thoroughly committed to building a program that the community of Klamath Falls and alumni of OIT can be proud of.” Meredith graduated from Humboldt State University in 1987 with a B.A. in liberal studies while also playing football and baseball for the Lumberjacks. Meredith also holds a M.S. from St. Mary’s College in Moraga, California, in health, physical education and recreation with an emphasis in sport psychology. He married his wife Priscilla in Tokyo, Japan, where he taught English and played fastpitch softball. They have two children Hayley (19) and Treyce (15).
