EUGENE, Ore. - The Oregon women’s soccer team finalized its roster for the upcoming fall season with the addition of two transfers and departure of goalkeeper Emily Zaler.

Jessica Goodell, a midfielder/forward, will transfer to Oregon from Nebraska.

The Durango, Colo., native has played in 41 games for the Cornhuskers over the last two seasons and has accumulated two goals and five assists. Goodell will be a junior this fall.

“Jess has great Division I experience in a great conference,” said Oregon head coach Tara Erickson. “Her playing abilities, particularly in terms of her defensive pressure and aggressiveness, will give us some things I thought we were missing in our attack last year.

Nebraska is known for being a hard-nosed team that always pressures the ball and that’s something I’d like to see more of from our attacking players and I think Jess can help us accomplish that.”

Goodell also has NCAA Tournament experience having played in two postseason games as a freshman in 2005 when Nebraska beat Creighton 1-0 before falling to Portland 3-2 in the second round.

Goodell scored one of the Cornhuskers’ goals in the loss to Portland, which went on to win the 2005 national title.

Last season, Goodell had three assists and one goal in 18 matches. As a freshman, she had a goal and two assists in 20 games.

Oregon also added Mackenzie Doty from McMinnville, Ore., to the roster. As a freshman last fall, Doty played at Chico State where scored four goals with one assist in 20 games.

She then enrolled at Oregon for the winter quarter and earned a roster spot as a walk-on through her performance in the Ducks’ recently completed spring season.

The McMinnville High grad is expected to see action at both midfield and defender for Oregon.

“We really weren’t looking to expand our roster this spring, “said Erickson. “But we saw the attitude and intensity that she brought to practice every day and it became clear that she deserved a spot on this team. She did a great job in the opportunities she had this spring and she is going to help us become a better team because of her attitude and work ethic.”

Doty will be a sophomore this fall.

Zaler, Oregon’s reserve goalkeeper, has announced that she intends to transfer to Missouri.

The Scottsdale, Ariz., native played in five games last season when starter Jessie Chatfield was out with a broken right hand. She went 4-1-0 with three shutouts and 15 saves.

“We are supportive of Emily’s situation and wish her good luck at Missouri,” said Erickson.

Zaler, who will be a sophomore in the fall, would have been a reserve to Chatfield, who will be a junior, for the next two seasons had she remained in Eugene.
