Mar-01-2007 19:26Oregon State`s Nash Earns First Team All-Pac-10 HonorsSalem-News.com SPORTSThe Beavers open State Farm Pac-10 Tournament action on Friday against University of Arizona.
SAN JOSE, Calif - Oregon State’s women’s basketball team had two players receive 2006-07 All-Pacific-10 Conference recognition as was announced on Thursday by Pac-10 Commissioner Tom Hansen. Senior guard Casey Nash was a first team All-Pac-10 selection and freshman forward Judie Lomax was named to the All-Freshman Team. Nash, from Stayton, became the first Beaver player since Leilani Estavan in 2002-03 to earn first team All-Pac-10 accolades. The 6-1 senior tripled her career scoring averaging and led the conference in scoring the entire year with a current average of 20.3 points per game. Nash is OSU’s first player to average 20.0 points per game since All-American Tanja Kostic accomplished the feat in the 1995-96 season. She also ranks 12th in the Pac-10 in rebounds with 6.6 boards per game and her 37.8 minutes per game ranks second in the league. Lomax, from Potomac, MD, made an immediate impact in her first season at OSU. She tallied a double-double in her first three collegiate games and has seven on the season, while leading the team in rebounding (7.7 rpg.) and ranking second in scoring (11.0 ppg.). Lomax led the Pac-10 in field goal percentage with an amazing .643 (119-for-185) clip from the floor. The 5-11 forward is the first OSU player to receive Pac-10 All-Freshman honors since Nash (playing as Casey Bunn) earned honorable mention All-Freshman status in 2002-03. University of California sophomore forward Devanei Hampton was named the 2006-07 Pac-10 Conference Player of the Year, Stanford’s Jayne Appel was selected as Pac-10 Freshman of the Year. Joanne Boyle of California was named the Pac-10 Coach of the Year. The Beavers open State Farm Pac-10 Tournament action on Friday against University of Arizona. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:15 PM at HP Pavilion.
