Salem-News.com SPORTS

RICHLAND, Wash - Central Washington pitcher Sara Badgely tossed a one-hitter, helping the host Wildcats to a opening-round win over Western Oregon on Thursday afternoon at the Red Lion Inn CWU Invitational, 2-1.

The Wolves, now 0-6 on the season, will play Montana State-Billings tonight at 5:45 PM.

The four-day tournament will run through Sunday.

Badgely improved to 3-1 on the season with the win and helped the Wildcats even up its record at 3-3.

She gave up only one hit, a single to Trina Dorn to lead off the fourth inning.

Dorn would later score on Shannon Prochaska’s suicide squeeze to account for WOU’s lone score. Badgely fanned five Wolves and walked three.

The Wildcats scored the tie-breaking run in the fifth inning on Logan Mohr’s RBI-single.

WOU pitcher Christina Cooke took the loss, scattering six hits, fanning three and walking one.
