ELLENSBURG, Wash. - Designated hitter Travis Coursey belted two home runs and drove in five RBI to help pace Western Oregon to an 8-1 victory over host Central Washington on Monday at the GNAC Preview at Tomlinson Field.

The win improved WOU’s record to 6-8 on the season and snapped CWU’s win streak at four.

The Wildcats, ranked No. 5 in the latest NCAA Division II west region poll, dropped to 10-3.

The Wolves went 2-2 in the tournament, splitting games with the Wildcats and Saint Martin’s.

Coursey hit his third and fourth home runs of the season with a two-run shot in the third inning and a solo blast in the sixth.

Kevin Corrigan and Pat Kelly had two hits each in the Wolves’ 11-hit attack.

Griffin Webb and Ben Shivers mostly split the pitching duties, with Webb gaining the win and Shivers the save.

Webb went the first five innings and gave up only two hits and a run, while Shivers went the final four and gave up no runs while scattering three hits.

Hank Anderson and Derek O’Konek had two hits each, supplying four of CWU’s five base knocks. Both of Anderson’s hits were doubles.

The Wolves will next travel to No. 2 regionally ranked and defending west region champion Chico State for a four-game series, beginning on Friday.
