EUGENE - The University of Oregon received a bye in the first round of the Women’s National Invitation Tournament and will host a second round game at McArthur Court between March 16th-19th, WNIT officials announced late Monday night.

The Ducks (16-13), who placed sixth in the Pac-10 Conference this season, will face either San Diego of the West Coast Conference or UC Santa Barbara out of the Big West.

Those teams play on Thursday, March 15th at USD in the tournament’s opening round.

The WNIT should know what date UO will host on Tuesday, with Saturday, March 17 as the likely choice.

Oregon is making its fourth overall appearance in the WNIT and first since 2002, when rookie head coach Bev Smith led the Ducks all the way to the championship.

That year, UO played four of five tournament games on its home floor, including the deciding 54-52 victory over Houston.

Oregon is 10-1 all-time in WNIT competition -- formerly known as the National Women’s Invitational Tournament -- and has won two titles (1989 & 2002) in three previous trips.

The 2007 Postseason WNIT features 16 first-round games, followed by 16 second-round games, eight third-round games, four quarterfinal games, two semifinal games and the championship.

All games in the single-elimination format are played at the home facilities of participating schools.
