MONMOUTH - Former Wolves tight end Kevin Boss improved his professional football stock with a solid showing during a Pro Day workout at Western Oregon’s McArthur Field on Friday morning.

Scouts and coaches representing 13 National Football League teams were on hand to further evaluate Boss, who also worked out at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis last month.

WOU running back Eliot Vinzant, offensive lineman Ryan Belcher and defensive back Jason Buckmier also worked out for the scouts.

At Indianapolis, Boss had the fastest time in the cone drill among all tight ends, so he did not participate in that drill today.

In all other categories, he ranked anywhere from second to sixth in the event that was held in late February.

But today he bettered his mark in the standing long jump to 10 feet even (four inches better than in Indy) and also improved in the vertical jump from 35 feet to 35 and a half.

Most impressively, he was clocked in the 40-yard dash in 4.66, better than the 4.74 he ran at the combine.

He was also tested in the bench press for the first time, putting 225 pounds up 15 times.

He opted not to lift in Indy, as he was still rounding back into shape after shoulder surgery from last November.

Prior to the surgery, his best effort in the bench press was 21 repetitions.

Boss, who graduated from WOU in December, also ran routes and caught passes from Wolves quarterback Mark Thorson.

“We wanted scouts and coaches to take a longer look at Kevin, especially in the area of catching the ball,” said his agent, Scott Smith.

“They already know that he is fast enough to play in the NFL and he has tested extremely well in all areas, but at the combine they run through the skills sessions so fast. Today, he had a chance to shine in one of his strongest areas.”

The Philomath native, who had 134 career catches and 19 touchdowns at WOU despite missing the final four games of his career with the shoulder injury, worked out individually for the Kansas City Chiefs earlier this week, and will have a private workout with the New York Giants next week.
