Bruins’ Campbell Named Second Team All-West Region by D3hoops

NEWBERG - Northwest Conference women’s basketball Player of the Year Katy Campbell of George Fox University has been named to the 2006-07 NCAA Division III All-West Region Second Team as selected by D3hoops.com, the foremost internet website for Division III college basketball.

Campbell, a 6-1 junior forward from Springfield, Ore., and Thurston High School, enjoyed an outstanding season in which she averaged 11.4 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game while shooting .491 from the field and .795 from the free throw line. ).

She reached double figures in scoring 15 times and in 10 rebound times, with five double-doubles.

Her season highs, all new career marks, included 21 points against Lewis & Clark, 14 rebounds vs. Wisconsin-Whitewater and Lewis & Clark, and 8 assists vs. Gustavus Adolphus.

She was the Bruins’ top scorer seven times and top rebounder 12 times.

The conference leader in rebounding, Campbell also ranked 3rd in free throw pct., 4th in field goal pct., 8th in scoring, 9th in assists, and 10th in blocked shots (0.38 pg).

She was the only player in the league to earn NWC Player of the Week honors as many as three times, and also was named George Fox’s Bruin Athletic Association Women’s Athlete of the Week six times.

Campbell’s play was instrumental in another successful season for the Bruins, who were 19-7 overall, their 14th straight winning season.

The Bruins went 13-3 in conference play, sharing the league title with the Puget Sound Loggers, whom they defeated twice during the regular season.

The Bruins also beat the Loggers again to win the NWC Tournament and earn an automatic bid to the NCAA National Tournament.

George Fox defeated 23rd-ranked Gustavus Adolphus in the first round of the tournament before the season ended with a narrow three-point loss to Puget Sound.

The Bruins were ranked 25th in both the final D3hoops.com and the USA Today/ESPN/Women’s Basketball Coaches Association NCAA Division III national polls.

Players for the D3hoops.com all-region teams are nominated by and voted on by the schools’ sports information directors.

A total of 638 athletes for both men’s and women’s teams were nominated.
