SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Portland Pilots junior pitcher Given Kutz was named the West Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week after recording his second complete game of the season and first career shutout in an 8-0 win over Utah on Friday.

Kutz struck out 14 Utes, the most strikeouts in a game by a Portland pitcher since 1990 and tied for the third highest single-game total in school history.

Kutz is the second UP pitcher to earn conference weekly honors this year.

Junior Ari Ronick was named the league’s co-pitcher of the week (Feb. 24th-Mar. 4th) after picking up two wins in two appearances.

Against the Utes, Kutz improved to 3-2 on the season after scattering nine hits with no walks. In his last three starts, he is 3-0 with two complete games.

He’s allowed just four earned runs in 25.0 innings, while striking out 23 and walking five during that stretch.

He leads the Pilots this year in wins and strikeouts (35).

Portland is currently in the middle of a 14-game homestand.

This week, the Pilots host Washington for a 2:00 PM game on Tuesday before welcoming Dallas Baptist for a three-game set beginning Thursday at Joe Etzel Field.
