BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Portland State junior right-hander Mandy Hill has been named the Pacific Coast Softball Conference Pitcher of the Week, for the week of March 12th-18th, the conference office announced Tuesday. Hill made six appearances, including four starts, last week, posting a 4-2 record with a 1.50 ERA. She registered 35 strikeouts-to-three walks and limited opponents to .209 batting average in 42.0 innings pitched. In addition, Hill hit .400 at the plate, going 8- for-20 with two home runs and seven RBI. “Mandy really carried us last week, both in the circle and at the plate,” said head coach Amy Hayes. “Three times last week she came up with big hits to score runs to not only help the team, but help herself out as a pitcher. Mandy is really starting to get into form.” Against South Dakota State last Friday, Hill fired a four-hit shutout, walking none and striking out six. She also went 2-for-3 in the game, including a lead-off home run in the bottom of the sixth to lift the Vikings to a 1-0 win. In wins against Utah State and the Jackrabbits on Saturday, Hill came on in relief in both games to earn the decision. In the 3-1 win over the Aggies, she worked seven shutout innings, allowing two hits and tying a season-high with nine strikeouts. In the 4-3 win over South Dakota State, Hill allowed two runs on four hits and walked none, while striking out five, in seven innings, and went 2-for3 with a home run and four RBI at the plate. The award marked the fourth time in her career that Hill has been named the PCSC Pitcher of the Week. For the season, Hill is 9-10 with a 2.66 ERA in 22 appearances, including 16 starts. She has logged 136 2/3 innings, striking out 105, while walking 26. Opponents are hitting .266 against her with 11 home runs. At the plate, Hill is hitting .274 with six home runs and 16 RBI. The Vikings are currently 11-14 on the season are riding a season-best four-game win streak heading into this weekend’s Stanford Invitational. Portland State will open the tournament with games versus Ohio, at 11:00 AM, and UC Davis, at 3:00 PM, on Friday.
