NBA: Blazers Roy Named Western Conference Rookie of the Month

Roy wins award for second consecutive month.

PORTLAND - Portland Trail Blazers rookie guard Brandon Roy has been named the NBA’s Western Conference Rookie of the Month for February.

Roy, who won the award for the second consecutive month, averaged 17.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 1.09 steals in 11 games (11 starts) during February.

The 6-6 guard from the University of Washington shot .453 percent from the field and .764 percent from the free throw line.

The month featured three performances of 20-plus points for Roy, including two games with 27 points (Feb. 6th vs. Phoenix and Feb. 20th vs. Utah).

He also recorded his third career double-double with 22 points and 11 assists in an overtime loss at Denver Feb. 2nd.

The sixth overall selection in the 2006 NBA Draft, Roy leads all rookies with 15.6 points, 3.7 assists and 34.3 minutes; he is tied for No. 5 alongside teammate LaMarcus Aldridge with 4.0 rebounds; and tied for second with 1.24 steals per game. He has played in 38 games, 36 of those as a starter.
