Mar-02-2007 13:18No. 17 Oregon Meets Rival Oregon State SaturdaySalem-News.com SPORTSGuard Aaron Brooks is nearing a 500 point season.
EUGENE - No. 17 Oregon (22-7, 10-7 Pac-10) wraps up the regular season with the Civil War, brought to you by your Northwest Dodge Dealers, when Oregon State (11-19, 3-14 Pac-10) visits McArthur Court on Saturday at 3:00 PM. Manager Scott Marian and players Adrian Stelly, Adam Zahn and Aaron Brooks will be recognized during pre-game Senior Day ceremonies. Rankings Record The Ducks are ranked for the 12th consecutive week, which matches Oregon’s longest single-season streak. The Ducks were also ranked for 12 consecutive weeks to start the 2002-03 season. Overall, Oregon’s longest consecutive streak being ranked by the Associated Press is 18 weeks spanning the 2001-02 and 2002-03 seasons. Top 10 Wins Credit to ESPN’s Andy Katz for this one: Oregon is the only school in the country to have defeated three different top 10 teams this year -- No. 1 UCLA, No. 10 Arizona and No. 9 Washington State. It’s the first time in school history that Oregon has knocked off three top 10 teams in the same season. The Ducks are 5-2 versus the top-25 in 2006-07. Aaron Brooks is nearing a 500 point season. Oregon has a 75-19 record at McArthur Court over the last six seasons. This year’s 15 home wins are one shy of the school’s season record at the venerable 80-year-old facility. Winning The Close Ones Oregon is now 12-4 in games decided by eight points or less (10-4 in Pac-10 games). All 10 of the Ducks’ Pac-10 wins have come by eight points or less. Compare that to last season when Oregon was 2-14 in such contests. The 12 "close" wins are the most since Oregon went 12-5 in games decided by an eight-point margin or less in 1999-00. Brooks On The Brink Aaron Brooks’ 30-point game versus Washington last Saturday helped him maintain his Pac-10 scoring lead at 18.0 ppg. Brooks is being chased by UCLA’s Arron Afflalo and (17.5 ppg) and USC’s Nick Young (17.2 ppg). Oregon hasn’t had a Pac-10 scoring leader since Terrell Brandon in 1991 (26.6 ppg). Turnover Battle Oregon has committed 10 turnovers or less in each of the last five games On the season, the Ducks are committing 12.7 turnovers per game and have a +2.9 turnover margin. Sharp Shooters Oregon leads the Pac-10 and ranks ninth nationally in three-point field goals per game (9.3). The Ducks are also second in the conference and 13th nationally in free throw percentage (.756). All Aboard For Porter Tajuan Porter -- who was named Pac-10 player of the week for his performance against the Washington schools -- needs just two more three-pointers to break the Pac-10 freshman record for threes in a season. The Detroit, Mich., native has 81 three pointers, one behind UCLA’s Jason Kapono, who knocked down 82 in 2000. Porter could also threaten the UO single season record of 94 set by Orlando Williams in 1994-95.
