ALLEN PARK, Mich. - The Detroit Lions have announced that they have re-signed LB Alex Lewis to a three-year deal.

No additional contract terms were disclosed.

Lewis (6-0, 227) enters his fourth season with the Lions who drafted him in the fifth round (140th overall) of the 2004 NFL Draft.

He began last season as the starting strong-side linebacker but suffered a leg injury in Week 2 at Chicago (9/17) which forced him to sit out Detroit’s next five games.

Lewis returned to action against Atlanta (11/5) and finished the 2006 campaign with 43 tackles (26 solo) as a regular in the Lions linebacker rotation.

As a rookie in 2004, Lewis became a steady contributor on defense and special teams while playing in 15 games (one start).

He established a career-high with 49 tackles (32 solo) and one interception in addition to 16 special teams tackles.

Lewis started the 2005 season opener against Green Bay (9/11) at strong-side linebacker but left the game early with an ankle injury. He was subsequently placed on the Reserve/Injured list October 22nd.

Lewis started 23-of-27 games at Wisconsin after joining the Badgers as a junior, playing his first two seasons at SUNY-Morrisville.

As a senior, he was selected to the All-Big Ten Conference first team by the league’s coaches and earned second-team honors from the media.

Lewis was a two-time All-League gridiron pick at Delran (N.J.) High
