Mar-02-2007 05:19Early Second Half Run Seals Win for Western OregonSalem-News.com SPORTSWOU, lost by one to Saint Martin’s in the GNAC opener for both teams back on Jan. 4th.
MONMOUTH - Western Oregon outscored Saint Martin’s 30-11 in the first seven minutes of the second half, keying a 94-83 Wolves men’s basketball win on Thursday night in front of 1,050 at the Physical Education Building. Senior post Jacob Mitchell scored 31 points, marking the third straight game that he has hit for 30 or better. He also had a double-double with 10 rebounds on the night. He hit 13 of 19 shots from the field. The win is the second straight for WOU, improving to 10-16 on the season and to 5-10 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. Saint Martin’s dropped their fifth straight to fall to 10-16 on the year and 7-8 in conference play. Mitchell and Brad Krichevsky keyed the blitz after intermission. Mitchell had ten points in the first four minutes of the second half and Krichevsky had seven. Krichevsky finished with 15 points on the night and seven assists in his first start of the year. Larry Hall had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, and Ryan Schmidt was also in double figures with 11 points. Jake Linton led SMU with 24 points, hitting 6 of 11 three-point attempts. Brendan Campbell added 21 counters and nine boards. WOU hit 59 percent from the field and outrebounded SMU 42-28. WOU, lost by one to Saint Martin’s in the GNAC opener for both teams back on Jan. 4th, led by as many as 23 points in the second half. The Saints would get no closer than 10 points after that. Western Oregon will wrap up the 2006-07 season on Saturday afternoon, hosting Seattle University at 3:00 PM.
