RICHLAND, Wash. - A few hours removed from finally notching its first win of the season, the Western Oregon softball team turned around and upset Seattle University 10-0 in a mercy-rule five inning decision Friday afternoon at the Red Lion Inn CWU Invitational at the Columbia Playfields in Richland.

The Wolves, now 2-7 on the year, scored in all five innings in topping the team predicted to win the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

With the loss, the Redhawks dropped to 8-7 in 2007.

Earlier in the day, Western Oregon rallied from a 5-1 deficit to come back and defeat Northwest Nazarene 6-5 for its first win of the season.

Against Seattle, Trina Dorn had two hits and drove in three runs, while Jamie Becker had a pair of hits and two RBI.

Tyler Sutherland went 3-for-4 in the lead-off spot and Whitney Lee added a couple of hits. WOU had 11 hits in the shortened contest.

Meanwhile, the Redhawks had five hits but couldn’t score against Wolves ace Christina Cooke.

The junior righthander did not walk a batter and fanned six. In doing so, she picked up her second win of the day, as she also got the win in relief against NNU.

In that game, Shannon Prochaska had two hits and Sutherland hit a three-run homer as the Wolves offense woke up after three scoreless innings.

NNU led 5-1 until the bottom of the fifth inning, when WOU scored three times and then scored twice more in the sixth to win the game.

Kristen Maglasang scored the winning run by stealing home.
