CCC Softball: Eastern Oregon Takes Two From Corban

SALEM - Sophomore Karlee Sisler and junior Lindsay Batey recorded a pair of RBIs with a home run by Sisler in the opener and a run scoring double by Batey in the night cap, but Corban's softball team fell, 12-1 & 5-2, to the Mountaineers of Eastern Oregon at Warrior Field on Saturday.

The two losses drop the Warriors' record to 3-12-1 overall, 1-3 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference.

Alternatively, the Mountaineers even their conference record at 2-2 and their overall record at 5-5.

Game #1 - Eastern Oregon 12, Corban 1

Sisler marched around the bases for Corban's lone run in Saturday's first stanza when she homered over the left field fence in the bottom of the fifth inning.

However, too much damage had already been done by the visiting squad who scored 12 runs in five at bats including a grand slam by Melodee Mildenberger in the top of the fifth inning.

Freshman Siriana Guest had Corban's only other hit in the first game, while the Mountaineers were led by Michelle St. John's 2-for-4 performance with three RBIs and Teri Cisler's 2-for-3 outing with a lone RBI at the plate.

Sophomore Erin Sailors struck out five Mountaineer batters in four and one-third inning of work, while giving up 12 runs (10 earned) on 10 hits.

Sisler completed the game in the circle for the Warriors not allowing any runs or any hits.

For Eastern Oregon, Mildenberger earned the win by pitching four innings, giving up one hit, and recording three strikeouts.

Stephanie Baumann relieved Mildenberger for the final inning, notched three strikeouts, and allowed one hit and one run.

Game #2 - Eastern Oregon 5, Corban 2

In the sixth inning of the day's second game, the Warriors attempted to mount a comeback behind Batey's double to the left-center fence that sent junior Megan Lamson home from second base.

Moments later, Batey was welcomed home by Guest who reached base on a fielder's choice.

Despite the effort, the Warriors were unable to overcome the five runs already tallied by the Mountaineers in the first, second, third, and fifth innings.

Batey hit 2-for 3 in the night cap and was closely trailed by freshman Kacie Emerick who hit 1-for-3.

The Mountaineers were led by Lydia Holm's 2-for-3 performance, while both Lindsey Smith and Jessica Snyder went 2-for-4 and had an RBI each.

Junior Kelley Seaton went five innings in the circle for Corban having given up five runs (two earned) on nine hits, while fanning two batters.

Sisler completed the game with two innings in the circle for the Warriors, striking out two batters and giving up a lone hit.

Kelly West was awarded the win by pitching six innings for the visitors, striking out five Warriors and allowing two runs (both earned) on three hits.

Teri Cisler entered the circle during the final inning for the Mountaineers and earned a save behind a one hit and two strikeout performance.

The Warriors make their way to British Columbia for a double header match up with the Clan of Simon Fraser University on Tuesday, March 27th, at 2:00 PM.
