Vikings Split Saturday

STANFORD, Calif. - Junior right-hander Mandy Hill went 2-for-4 with four RBI, including hitting a three-run home run and also earned the decision in Portland State’s 7-3 win over Long Beach State Saturday morning at the Stanford Invitational, played at the Smith Family Stadium on the campus of Stanford University.

Later in the day, UC Davis scored nine runs in the fourth inning en route to a 15-4 win over the Vikings in five innings.

Portland State (12-17) will conclude the three-day tournament with a game Sunday at noon against host No. 15 Stanford.

GAME 1: PORTLAND STATE 7, LONG BEACH STATE 3

Hill hit a three-run home run in the third inning to give Portland State a 5-0 lead and also struck out seven in earning the win as the Vikings defeated the 49ers 7-3.

The home run was her seventh of the season, and she also had an RBI single in the sixth to cap a two-run inning and extend the lead to 7-2.

Hill finished 2-for-4 with four RBI as Portland State recorded a season-high 13 hits for the game.

In the circle, Hill (10-12) allowed seven hits and walked none in going the distance to earn the win.

Freshman catcher Brandi Scoggins went 3-for-3 with an RBI single in the first inning to give Portland State a 1-0 lead.

Freshman designated player Ali Klemenok, sophomore shortstop Jamee Rauch and junior center fielder Laura Segall also had two hits each for the Vikings.

Junior right-hander Lacy Tyler (1-6) suffered the loss, allowing five runs on eight hits and one walk in three innings.

Freshman shortstop Ashley Levine led the 49ers at the plate, going 2-for-3.

Junior second baseman Whitney Radcliff hit a two-run home run in the third inning to pull Long Beach State to within 5-2.

GAME 2: UC DAVIS 15, PORTLAND STATE 4

UC Davis scored two runs in the first, three in the second and one in third to jump out to a 6-2 lead before erupting for nine runs in the fourth to build a 15-2 lead.

Senior Mandi Salcido hit two home runs for the Aggies and senior Nikki Sheldon also homered in the contest.

Hill hit her eighth home run of the year with a two- run shot in the fifth to cap the scoring.

Senior right-hander Lindsay Tognetti (9-3) earned the win for UC Davis.

Sophomore right-hander Jessi Even (1-5) was charged with the loss.

The Aggies out-hit the Vikings 15-4.

NOTES: Portland State and UC Davis will meet Monday afternoon for a noon, game in Davis, Calif.
