CORVALLIS - Junior Cambria Miranda hit two home runs, including a walk-off shot to end the first game as the No. 16 ranked Oregon State softball team swept Sunday’s double-header against Idaho State by scores of 9-0 in five innings and 8-0 in six innings.

It was all Oregon State (24-10) as the Beavers pulled in front from the start in the opener.

Senior pitcher Brianne McGowan drove in a run and scored to give OSU the quick lead in the first inning.

Sophomore catcher Stefanie Ewing belted a lead-off home run in the bottom of the second inning and the Beavers extended their lead to 6-0 in the bottom of the fourth after four straight singles, including RBI shots from freshman Kelly Dyer and McGowan.

McGowan dominated in the circle and had a no-hitter going through 4.2 innings until Idaho State’s Kylie Bronson blooped a single into shallow center field.

The game ended in the bottom of the fifth inning when Miranda belted her team-leading sixth home run of the season with a 3-run walk-off blast to straight-away center field.

McGowan (14-5) tossed a complete game one-hit shutout to improve her record on the season to 14-5 and give her 89 career victories – now just three wins shy of breaking the school record held by Tarrah Beyster (1997-00).

Miranda finished with a 3-for-4 clip from the plate and four RBI, while McGowan went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI.

Dyer, a freshman pitcher from Eugene, OR, earned her first career start in the night-cap and struck out four batters in four innings of work to pick up her first career victory.

The Beavers gave Dyer some room to work by once again taking a 2-0 lead in the opening inning behind RBI singles from freshman Dani Chisholm and senior Sherina Galvan.

In the bottom of the third, Miranda lined her 28th career home run – and third blast in as many games – down the left field line and off the top of the Beaver batting cages to make the score 3-0.

The onslaught continued in the fifth inning as the Beavers added four more runs on five hits including Miranda’s sixth triple of the season, and doubles from Ewing, Chisholm and McGowan.

Freshman Alana Ford opened the bottom of the sixth with a double to right-center field and came around to score the game-winner when Dyer hit a grounder to second base.

McGowan inched her way closer to OSU’s career saves record – throwing two innings of relief to earn her 11th career save – just two shy of breaking Monica Hoffman’s (2001-04) all-time mark.

Oregon State returns to action with its final tune-up before Pac-10 play when the Beavers host Northern Colorado in a double-header on Wednesday.

First-pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
