STANFORD, Calif. - Sophomore second baseman Jackie Heide hit a solo home run in the fourth inning and that was all junior right-hander Mandy Hill would need as Portland State shutout No. 13 Stanford 3-0 Sunday afternoon, in the Stanford Invitational II, played at the Smith Family Stadium.

Hill (11-12) limited the Cardinal (23-6) to five hits and one walk in earning the 40th win of her career.

She is just one of three pitchers in school history to record 40 career wins and 300 career strikeouts.

Heide hit her third home run of the season with a two-out solo shot to put the Vikings (13-17) up 1-0.

Portland State tacked on two insurance runs in the seventh on a two-run single by senior left fielder Kimi Daniel.

Freshman designated player Ali Klemenok went 2-for-2 and junior center fielder Laura Segall was 2-for-4 to lead the Vikings’ nine-hit attack.

Junior right-hander Becky McCullough (8-4) was charged with the loss, allowing one run on five hits and one walk, while striking out two in five innings.

Junior second baseman Tricia Aggabao went 2-for-3 to lead Stanford at the plate.

Portland State will play at UC Davis on Monday.

First-pitch is scheduled for noon.
