Oregon State's Jami Lanz Earns Pac-10 Gymnast of the Week

Lanz leads the team with 17 individual titles in 2007.

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Oregon State’s Jami Lanz has been named the Pac-10 Conference Gymnast of the Week for March 13th-19th, Pac-10 Commissioner Tom Hansen announced Tuesday.

Lanz, a sophomore from Eugene, Ore., led the Beavers to a season-high score of 197.100 in Friday’s win over Cal State Fullerton at Gill Coliseum.

Lanz scored a career-best 39.625 in the all-around against the Titans to etch her name in the OSU record books tying for the fifth-highest score in school history.

Leading the team with team with 13 individual titles coming into the meet, Lanz provided a dominant performance that included three scores of 9.900 or better and won three events and the all-around competition.

After opening the evening with a 9.900 on vault to finish second, Lanz earned top honors on bars (9.875) and set a personal-best on balance beam with a score of 9.925.

She finished the night with a career-high tying 9.925.

Lanz ranks tied for 10th nationally as an all-arounder and is first in the conference.

She ranks tied for 19th on bars in the nation and 21st on floor.

She leads the team with 17 individual titles in 2007.

In addition to five all-around titles, she has four on beam and three apiece on bars and floor and two titles on vault.

This week’s award is the third of the season for Oregon State gymnasts; Lanz earned the award for the week of Feb. 13th-19th and Tasha Smith received recognition the following week Feb. 20th-26th.

The Beavers travel to Tempe, Ariz. this week to compete at the Pac-10 Championships Saturday.

No. 9 OSU, which is seeking its fifth conference title in school history, can be seen in action on FSN on a tape delay basis.

The championship event will be broadcast April 5th at noon and again April 7th at 11:30 AM.
