JUNCTION CITY, Ore. - The Oregon State women’s golf team registered the final round’s lowest team score of 301 that led the Beavers to a third place finish at Shadow Hills Country Club.

Oregon State shot a 933 (313-319-301) for the tournament and moved up one spot from yesterday’s fourth place finish on the par-72 6,096 yard course.

Martha Burkard led OSU in the final round with a 2-over-par 74. On the round Burkard had a stretch of 16 holes where she was under-par that led to her 13th place finish, moving up the leader board 12 places from yesterday.

“It feels good to have a good round,” said Burkard. “I wish I had done better. I had a lot of shots that I lost, but I stayed pretty consistent. The other girls played really well too.”

Jessi Gebhardt and Julianna Uhrik tied for OSU’s second best score on the day with a third round score of 75.

Gebhardt finished in a tie for sixth place with a final score and team best 231 (76-80-75) and Uhrik finished in a tie for tenth with a final score of 233 (80 78 75).

Both Gebhardt and Uhrik rose six spots in the individual standings from day one of the tournament.

OSU improved 18 strokes from their second round score, which was a product of all four of the scores that counted for the Beaver’s team score being sub-80 with two top ten finishes, and a top 15 finish.

“All of our golfers played really well,” said head coach Rise Lakowske. “That will definitely help our confidence going into Arizona. We have a couple that are ailing a bit right now, so we’re going get them healthy by the time we play in Arizona and have a strong showing at Arizona State.”

With an important point in the Northwest Dodge Civil War Series on the line, the Beavers began Tuesday with a three-stroke lead over rival Oregon.

The Ducks shot a 303, which allowed the Beavers to extend their three-stroke advantage to ten and earn the point.

OSU also picked up a point with a better finish than Oregon in the men’s Duck Invitational on Tuesday.

The Beavers, who are looking for their third straight victory in the overall series, now have an 8-7 lead with just two points yet to be decided in the best-of-three softball series.

“When you are on a long golf course, and a tough golf course with weather like this, finishing third is good, especially after a couple rounds yesterday that we could have played better in. Those mid to low 70s scores are going to translate in Arizona to a lot lower scores,” said Lakowske.

The OSU women’s golf team heads to Tempe, Ariz. next for the PING/ Arizona State Invitational on Friday Mar. 30th-Apr. 1st.
