SALEM - Junior Jamie McGraw and senior Ryan Heil each collected a game-high three hits with McGraw scoring a run and the duo each knocking in a run, but Corban's baseball team fell to conference rival Concordia, 13-3, on Friday at Warrior Field.

Corban fell behind in the opening inning when Concordia's Cody Herrick grounded out to the Warriors' shortstop, thus allowing Kyle Waterland to score from third for the game's opening tally.

Two innings later, the Warrior got on the board and knotted the game at 1-all thanks to an RBI single to right field by Heil that scored McGraw from second.

Unfortunately that was the closest that Corban would get to its opponents from Portland, as Concordia put three runs on the board in the 4th inning and then broke the game wide open in the 6th when the Cavaliers had six runners cross the plate in the stanza.

Trailing by three runs (4-1) in the bottom of the fifth inning, Corban got one run back when McGraw singled through the left side thus allowing junior Scott Flux to score from third.

In the decisive 6th inning, Concordia put six runs on the board via 5 hits that included Jimmy Rudig's home run over the left-center field wall for the final runs of the inning.

In the bottom of the 6th inning, Corban got one run back when senior Brett Timmerman scored following an error by the Cavaliers' shortstop off the bat of freshman Josh Warner.

Up by seven runs (10-3), Concordia scored single runs in each of the final three innings for the final tally of 13-3.

Besides McGraw and Heil, Timmerman, Flux, and sophomore Craig Spicer each recorded a hit for the home team.

On the mound, sophomore starter Jason Braun went the first 5.1 innings and allowed 10 runs (8 earned) on 9 hits with 1 strikeout.

Braun was relieved by sophomore Eric Clifford, freshman Eric Fry, and sophomore Brandon Wolters.

The trio of relievers pitched 2.2 innings and allowed 3 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits with a combined 1 strikeout.

For Concordia, Kyle Waterland went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs scored and a pair of RBIs, including two straight hit-by-pitches in the opening two innings.

Mike Hall and Jimmy Rudig each collected two hits, while Ryan Sussenguth, Josh Mandin, James Mannion, Derek Shigano, and Paul Jaques recorded a hit each off Warrior pitching.

On the hill, the Cavaliers' starter Bryan Goss went 8.0 solid innings, allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 9 hits with 3 strikeouts before giving way to Ross Conway for the final perfect inning.

With the loss, Corban falls to 10-16-1 overall, 4-9 in Region I play.

Meanwhile, Concordia improves to 9-14 on the season, 6-7 in Region I action.

These same two teams will conclude their three-game series tomorrow -- Saturday -- with an afternoon double header beginning at noon on Warrior Field with a 7-inning contest to open followed by a 9-inning affair.
