Mar-30-2007 20:20CCC Softball: No. 13 Oregon Tech Takes Two From CorbanSalem-News.com SPORTSWith the losses, Corban drops to 3-19-1 overall, 1-5 in CCC play.
KLAMATH FALLS - Junior Lindsay Batey hit a home run in each game of Friday's double header against the NAIA's No. 13-ranked Hustlin' Owls of Oregon Tech, but it was not enough as the Warriors dropped both games of the twin bill, 12-2 & 5-2, at the OIT Softball Complex. Game #1 - Oregon Tech 12, Corban 2 In the opener of the double header, Corban found themselves down quickly as the host Hustlin' Owls of Oregon Tech scored four runs in the 1st and six more runs in the 2nd. An RBI single by junior Megan Lamson in the second inning was the lone tally for Corban until Batey notched her team-leading 5th home run of the season to lead off the 4th inning. The visiting Warriors could only muster four hits off OIT pitching, as Batey went a perfect 2-for-2 to extend her hitting streak to three games. Lamson and sophomore Megan Gaylord were the only other Corban players to record hits on the afternoon. Sophomore starter Karlee Sisler was saddled with the loss, as the right-hander pitched all five innings for Corban, while allowing 12 runs (all earned) on 15 hits. Meanwhile, OIT's Jenni Bittle collected her ninth win of the season pitching 4.0 innings and allowed 2 runs (all earned) on 4 hits with a game-high 5 strikeouts. Game #2 - Oregon Tech 5, Corban 2 In the night cap, Corban got on the board first in the second inning when Batey hit her second home run of the day before fellow junior Laura Santie (Seattle, Wash.) scored on a single by freshman Kacie Emerick (Bellingham, Wash.) for the Warriors' lone tallies of the second game. In the bottom of the third inning, Oregon Tech put four runs on the board via three hits, including back-to-back doubles by Bittle and Suceray Titus. Corban attempted to come back, but could not over come the mighty pitching of OIT's Keri Gesner, as she went the distance allowing 2 runs (1 earned) on 7 hits with two strikeouts. Meanwhile, the Warriors' starter -- junior Kelley Seaton -- turned in her finest performance this season, as the right-hander pitched all six innings and allowed 5 runs (all earned) on 9 hits with a game-high tying two strikeouts. Emerick led the Warriors' offense with a 2-for-3 performance, while five other Warriors -- Batey, Gaylord, freshman Siriana Guest, freshman Nicole Leupitz, and junior Jennifer Childers -- all collected a hit off OIT pitching. On the afternoon, Batey went a combined 3-for-4 with 3 runs scored and 2 RBIs. Gaylord collected a pair of hits, while four other Corban players registered one hit in the twin bill. With the losses, Corban drops to 3-19-1 overall, 1-5 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Oregon Tech runs its winning streak to four games and improves to 19-3-1 overall, 3-1 in CCC action. The Warriors are next in action on Saturday, March 31st, when they take on the Raiders of Southern Oregon in a double header that begins at 11:00 AM in Ashland.
