Mar-30-2007 20:16Pac-10 Women's Tennis: No. 24 Ducks Swept by No. 11 Bruins, 7-0Salem-News.com SPORTSWith the loss the Ducks fall to 11-6 on the year.
EUGENE - The No. 24 Ducks battled throughout, but the No. 11 UCLA Bruins were just too much as they bested the Ducks 7-0, Friday afternoon at the Student Tennis Center. With the loss the Ducks fall to 11-6 on the year, while the Bruins move up to 12-5. Sophomore Carmen Seremeta was the only Ducks to take her match to three sets. Playing at the No. 3 position, the Cupertino, Calif. native overcame a first set loss to take the second set, but was ultimately defeated by No. 40 Tracy Lin (6-4, 4-6, 11-9) in a super tiebreak, since the team match was not in doubt. "It was good to see Carmen have a good showing now that she's finally back from a sickness that had been bothering her the past couple of matches," Reber said. "She fought really hard but was just unfortunate to be on the wrong end of that tiebreak." At the top position, senior Dominika Dieskova fell 7-5, 6-3 to No. 20 ranked Rita Zalameda. The Bruins featured four players ranked in the top 100 in the nation. Ana Cecilia Olivos would fall at the No. 2 position to the 43rd ranked Yasmin Schnack, UCLA's freshman phenom. In the bottom of the order all of the matches were decided in straight sets with the Bruins wining all the matches. Ashley Jolson defeated Monica Hoz de Vila 6-4, 6-0 at No. 4, Elizabeth Lumpkin got the 6-2, 6-1 win over Anna Powaska at No. 5 and Anna Viktoria Lind rounded out the match with a 6-4, 6-3 defeat of Claudia Hirt at the sixth position.
