Mar-31-2007 20:29Pac-10 Women's Tennis: No. 4 USC Sweeps Ducks, 7-0Salem-News.com SPORTSThe Ducks take to the road for the next couple of weeks, beginning with San Diego State on Friday, April 6th at 2:00 PM.
EUGENE - Sophomore Carmen Seremeta was the only Duck to take her match past straight sets as the No. 24 Ducks were swept, 7-0, by the No. 4 USC Trojans Saturday afternoon at the Student Tennis Center. The Cupertino, Calif. native won the first set of her match but USC's Amanda Fink rallied to take the second set and ultimately the match, 4-6, 6-3, (6). Seremeta was the last Duck off of the court and since the team match was decided, a super tiebreak was employed to decide the No. 3 position match. "I thought we played well all weekend, we just met some better teams and I give credit to the girls for battling the way they did," head coach Paul Reber said. "We are trying to instill a total game into our girls and we have a good young base that is only going to get better." At the No. 1 position, Dominika Dieskova was bested by the No. 12 ranked player in the nation in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. Ana Cecilia Olivos would also fall at the No. 2 position in straight sets to the No. 8 ranked Lindsey Nelson, 6-0, 6-3. Claudia Hirt appeared to be rallying late in her match at the No. 6 position, but Julie Smekodub held her off for the 6-3, 7-5 win. The Ducks did pick up a match win in doubles as the pair of Claudia Hirt and Carmen Seremeta defeated Amanda Fink and Anca Anastasiu, 8-5, but the doubles point would go to USC as they won the matches at the No. 1 position and the No. 3 position. With the loss the Ducks fall to 11-7, while the Trojans move to 11-2. The Ducks take to the road for the next couple of weeks, beginning with San Diego State on Friday, April 6th at 2:00 PM.
