WHL: Gagnon’s Hat Trick Leads Seattle Over Portland, 5-1

The two teams meet again on Sunday in Portland.

SEATTLE - Seattle’s Captain Aaron Gagnon scored a hat trick, one on a penalty shot, to lead the host Seattle Thunderbirds over the Portland Winter Hawks 5-1 on Saturday night at the Key Arena in Seattle.

Radek Meidl and Lindsay Nielsen also scored for Seattle. Colton Sceviour scored the lone goal for Portland early in the third period to cut the lead to 2-1 but Seattle scored three goals after that to skate away with the victory.

Chris Ward stopped 29 of 34 shots for Portland while Derek Yeomans stopped 21 of 22 shots as Seattle won their ninth consecutive game.

Portland was without Frazer McLaren, Stefan Langwieder and Scott Gabriel who all were suspended for their actions last night in Everett.

McLaren served his one game suspension tonight while Langwieder has one more game to serve.

Gabriel’s suspension is indefinite and they length will be determined early in the week.

Seattle finished the game 1 for 3 on the power play while Portland went 0 for 5.

Portland and Seattle will face off again Sunday night at the Rose Garden, game time is 5:00 PM.
