MONMOUTH - 6-2 sophomore post Rebecca Kielpinski had 19 second-half points and 26 in the game to lead Alaska Anchorage to an 85-73 women’s basketball win over Western Oregon on Saturday night at the Physical Education Building.

The victory kept the Seawolves title hopes alive, as they finished the regular season with a 11-5 record in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, one game behind conference leader Seattle Pacific.

An SPU loss to Seattle Saturday night would mean a co-championship to be shared by the Falcons and Seawolves.

Alaska Anchorage is 22-5 overall, while Western Oregon ends its season at 3-24 on the year and they are 2-14 in league play.

Kielpinski led a second half surge that the Seawolves would need to pull the game out.

Tristan Burnett hit three treys in the first three minutes of the game, but UAA would go cold beyond the arch in the first half after that (4-17).

Meanwhile, WOU nailed six three’s in the first 20 minutes (6-13) and posted a 37-31 lead at the break.

Kori Seymour had 12 points in the first half for WOU and Leada Berkey had nine.

WOU held their margin early in the second half until Meghan Vaughan’s three-pointer gave UAA a lead for good at 49-47.

The Wolves would stay close, at 67-66 with under four minutes to go, but the Seawolves answered and then nailed free throws down the stretch to seal the game.

Berkey and Seymour led WOU with 21 points each, and point guard Brittany MacGregor added 10.

Senior Kaila Hawley had nine points, six rebounds and four assists in her final collegiate contest. She is the only senior on this year’s WOU squad.

Burnett finished with 17 points for UAA, hitting four of six three-point attempts. Vaughan was also in double figures with 10 points.

WOU tied a school record by nailing 12 three-points in the contest. They also set a WOU mark for treys made in a season, finishing with 193.
