Mar-06-2007 17:05Western Oregon Announces 2007 Football ScheduleSalem-News.com SPORTSWolves to jet to three games, host five contests
MONMOUTH, Ore. - The 2007 Western Oregon football team will visit the states of Utah, Texas, California and Washington this year, while also hosting five familiar rivals at McArthur Field in a 10-game slate. The Wolves, under third-year leader Arne Ferguson, will open the season against neighbors Willamette (Sept. 1st) and Linfield (Sept. 8th). They will also have home games against Central Washington (Oct. 13th), Southern Oregon (Oct. 20th) and Humboldt State (Nov. 10th). On the travel schedule are trips to Texas A&M-Kingsville (Sept. 15th), Cal Poly (Sept. 22nd), Humboldt State (Oct. 6th), Western Washington (Oct. 27th) and Dixie State (Nov. 3rd). In 2008, the Great Northwest Athletic Conference will reform in football, and the Wolves will play a home-and-home with Western Washington, Central Washington, Humboldt State and Dixie State. The Wolves played all of the teams on its 2007 schedule in 2006, with the exception of Cal Poly. The Mustangs play at the Football Championship Subdivision level (formerly NCAA Div. I-AA) and went 7-4 last season. This will be the first-ever meeting between Western Oregon and Cal Poly, which is located in San Luis Obispo. Times for WOU’s home games have not yet been finalized, but it appears that the Wolves will have at least four night games, and possibly six. Road games at Kingsville, Cal Poly, Humboldt State and Dixie State will all be played under the lights. WOU’s first two contests at home against Willamette and Linfield are likely to kick-off at twilight or later. Western Oregon currently plays as an independent at the NCAA Division II level. The Wolves went 6-4 last season. 2007 Western Oregon Football Schedule
