The Blue Jays placed right-hander Roy Halladay on the 15-day disabled list on Friday, and the former American League Cy Young Award winner is expected to miss four to six weeks.

Prior to Friday night's game against the Rays, the Blue Jays announced that Halladay was suffering from acute appendicitis and was undergoing surgery.

For the season, Halladay is 4-2 with a 4.37 ERA in eight starts.

In his last two trips to the mound, Halladay has given up 17 runs on 23 hits over 10 1/3 innings in a pair of losses.

The recent performance has been a drastic contrast to Halladay's showing in April, when he went 4-0 with a 2.28 ERA in six outings en route to the AL Pitcher of the Month Award.

On Thursday, Halladay yielded eight runs (seven earned) on 11 hits in five innings against Boston, which handed Toronto its ninth straight defeat.

The pitcher and Toronto manager John Gibbons reported no health issues after the loss.
