OSU Softball Will Host NCAA Regional Tournament

No. 7 seeded Beavers make eighth straight NCAA appearance and will face Nevada on Friday at 4:00 PM, Portland State and Baylor meet at 1:00 PM.

CORVALLIS - Making their eighth consecutive NCAA postseason appearance, the No. 7 seeded Oregon State University softball team will host the NCAA Regional Tournament for the first time in program history. The Beavers (38-13) will face University of Nevada (33-31) at 4:00 PM on Friday at the OSU Softball Complex. Portland State University (37-18) will face Baylor University (36-20) in the tournament`s opening game at 1:00 PM.

Oregon State is one of 64 NCAA Division I schools selected to compete at 16 regional sites for a chance to advance to the College World Series from June 1st-6th, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

“Anytime you can play at home and on your own field, it`s a great opportunity“ said OSU head coach Kirk Walker. “To be able to host in the postseason is something that we`ve never had an opportunity to do and so we`re very excited.“

Tournament format is double elimination with the winner of each regional advancing to the Super Regional – a best of two out of three game series. The eight Super Regional winners advance to the 2006 Women`s College World Series.

Other schools in Oregon State`s region include No. 10 seeded University of California, Nebraska, Iowa, and Illinois State.

The Beavers have a 20-14 overall record in their seven previous trips to the Regional Tournament and have reached the championship game on five occasions (1999, 2000, 2003, 2004, 2005) before being eliminated.

This is the second season in which the Regional Tournament will have four teams (originally there were eight teams at each site) and there is the addition of the Super Regional.

Oregon State holds a 6-3-1 record all-time against Nevada with the Beavers earning an 8-3 victory at the CSUF Worth Tournament when the teams last met on Mar. 6th, 2005. The Wolfpack won the Western Athletic Conference Tournament to earn the NCAA automatic bid.

Oregon State defeated Baylor (3-1) earlier this season at the Palm Springs Classic, Feb. 25th, and split a pair of games against Portland State, Apr. 18th.

Tournament action runs from Friday, May 19th through Sunday, May 21st.

Single-game tickets will be only sold at the OSU Softball Complex the day the game (single-game tickets are not valid for other games in the session). All single-game seating is general admission. Pricing is as follows:
