BOARDMAN – AP - Voters in Morrow County will decide a tax measure tomorrow that could lead to construction of a motor speedway in Eastern Oregon -- and races by 2008.

The proposed eight percent tax would be charged against tickets and goods and services within a special raceway district.

The proceeds would be used to pay for roads and utilities for the 300 million dollar track, which has been in the works for several years and is in its second incarnation.

The site is five miles west of Boardman, along Interstate 84.

The sponsors envision seating more than 80-thousand people in a facility that could accommodate a variety of racing events -- from drag races to stock cars to go-carts

The Port of Morrow has set aside about one-thousand acres in hopes of boosting the local economy.
