Soccer: Cheek's Second-Half Goal Propels Surge

Salem-News.com

TACOMA, Wash. - Chris Chapman found Ryan Cheek wide open in front of the goal, and Cheek made the most of the opportunity Saturday to give the Cascade Surge a 1-0 win against Tacoma FC.

Tacoma FC controlled the play in the first half, and Surge goalkeepers Steve Reese and Brett Bentley were forced to make several saves to keep their team in the game.

Cascade started the second half strong, and in the 57th minute Chapman ran on to a long ball in the right corner and then crossed to Cheek, who finished with ease for the eventual winning goal.

The Surge had only four shots to Tacoma's nine, but Bentley's seven saves preserved the shutout.

Cascade returns to action this Friday with a home game against BYU at 7:00 PM at McCulloch Stadium.
