EUGENE, Ore. - The University of Oregon softball team leaves for the NCAA Regionals on Wednesday, heading to its fourth postseason appearance in the last five years under head coach Kathy Arendsen.

Oregon is the No. 2 seed in the South Carolina Regional, scheduled to play the first game at 1:00 PM on Friday against No. 3 seed Penn State (26-23) at Beckham Field in Columbia.

It won’t be the first time the Ducks and Nittany Lions have played one another in the postseason, in 2003 - Arendsen’s first as head coach - Oregon defeated Penn State 10-8 in the first game of the Fullerton Regional.

The Ducks, currently ranked 20th in the nation, ended the regular season with a record of 42-17 and a 7-14 finish in the Pac-10, good for seventh place.

The Ducks’ 42 victories tie for the second most in Oregon history, also accomplished in 2004. Oregon’s single season record, 54 victories, was set in 1989.

The Ducks’ .712 winning percentage in 2007 is also the best in the program’s history since the 1989 season.

For Oregon fans who won’t be able to make the cross country trip to watch the Ducks in action, all of the postseason games will be broadcast and available for free on www.GoDucks.com.

Terry Jonz will be on the broadcast for the Ducks, with Friday’s game not only on the internet but airing on KSCR 1320. Saturday’s and Sunday’s games will be available on KUGN 590.

Live stats will also be provided on www.GoDucks.com, and continue to check the website for game recaps and game times throughout the weekend
