MONMOUTH - 2006 Western Oregon interim baseball coach Jeremiah Robbins has been promoted to head baseball coach of the Wolves program, announced today by WOU athletic director Jon Carey. Robbins served nearly the entire season as the team`s leader, after highly successful coach Terry Baumgartner resigned. The Wolves went 40-16 this spring, winning the Great Northwest Athletic Conference for the sixth consecutive time and earning the No. 1 seed for the NCAA Division II west region tournament for the first time in school history. Last week at Volcanoes Stadium in Keizer, the Wolves finished third at the event. He was named the GNAC Coach of the Year. “I feel extremely honored to be chosen as the man to lead this program,“ the 34-year-old said. “I believe that Western Oregon is one of the top baseball programs in the Pacific Northwest and I am very excited to have the opportunity to lead this team.“ Robbins served as an associate head coach in 2005 when the Wolves went 42-15 and finished second in the west region. Robbins, who was an all-conference catcher for WOU in 1998, was the head coach at Douglas High School in 2003 and 2004. The Trojans won back-to-back Far West League titles during his leadership, and his `03 team reached the 3A state semi-finals. A two-time Far West League Coach of the Year, Robbins was honored as the 3A Coach of the Year in `04. Douglas went 24-2 and reached the state quarterfinals. The Douglas native spent the 2002 season as the head assistant coach at Lane CC, and was the leader of the Southwestern Oregon CC program in 2000 and 2001. In `01, he was named the south region coach of the year in the NWAACC. He earned his degree from Eastern Oregon in 2001. He is married to wife Mareena, and they live in Monmouth. They are expecting their first child in June.
