Oregon State's Canham Among Bench Award Semifinalists

Three finalists for the Bench Award will be announced June 5th.

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State’s Mitch Canham is one of 10 semifinalists for the 2007 Johnny Bench Award, given to the nation’s top catcher in college baseball.

The Coleman Company-Johnny Bench Award, delivered by AT&T, is selected by a vote of a national committee including sportswriters, sportscasters, NCAA Division I coaches and scouts.

Canham is batting .345 with nine home runs and 52 runs batted in for Oregon State (36-16 overall, 8-13 Pacific-10), which finishes the regular season this weekend at UCLA.

Games will be Friday at 6:00 PM, Saturday at 2:00 PM and Sunday at 1:00 PM.

All three games can be heard on KEJO-AM (1240) in the Corvallis area, KUIK-AM (1360) in the Portland area, KKNX-AM (840) in the Eugene area and KICE-AM (940) in the Bend area.

Three finalists for the Bench Award will be announced June 5th. The award will be presented at the Greater Wichita Sports Banquet on June 27th.
