LA GRANDE, Ore - Due to drought conditions in eastern Oregon, daily catch limits of trout and bass have changed at Thief Valley Reservoir effective today.

Biologists are adjusting the catch limits because the reservoir is scheduled to be drained in the summer.

A temporary rule was approved by ODFW officials with the following conditions:

1. Daily catch limit for trout is 15 with no possession limit

2. Daily catch limit for bass is 15 with no possession limit

3. There are no size limits

The amended regulations are in effect from May 26 to Sept. 30.

When water levels drops in the reservoir, large numbers of stocked hatchery trout and some warmwater game fish get trapped in isolated pools and become stressed by warm and turbid water, and eventually die.
