MLB: Pirates Jason Bay Named NL Player of the Week

Bay had back-to-back three-RBI games at Cincinnati on Saturday, May 26th and Sunday, May 27th.

PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh Pirates left fielder Jason Bay, who recorded a .950 slugging percentage, has been named Bank of America Presents the National League Player of the Week for the period ending May 27th.

Bay hit .500 (10-20), and recorded an on-base percentage of .571.

He drove in 10 runs (second in the NL), scored six runs, and collected three doubles.

Bay had back-to-back three-RBI games at Cincinnati on Saturday, May 26th and Sunday, May 27th.

In Sunday's game, the two-time National League All-Star went 3-for-5, highlighted by a three-run homer in the first inning of Pittburgh's 14-10 win over Cincinnati.

In 2006, Bay won the same honors in consecutive weeks during the month of May (5/21 and 5/28).

Other nominees this past week included Bay's Pirate teammate Chris Duffy (.400, 4 2B, 2 RBI); Arizona's Carlos Quentin (.375, 3 HR, 11 RBI), Mark Reynolds (.480, 2 HR, 8 RBI), and Micah Owings (1-0, 1.00 ERA, 8 SO); Atlanta's John Smoltz (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 5 SO); Sergio Mitre (0.00 ERA, 8 SO) of the Marlins; Paul Lo Duca (.579, 11 H) and Oliver Perez (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 5 SO) of the Mets; Philadelphia's Shane Victorino (.417, 4 RBI) and Jayson Werth (.308, 3 HR, 5 RBI); Washington's Felipe Lopez (.344, 7 RBI) and Dmitri Young (.522, 4 2B, 6 RBI); Alex Gonzalez (.345, 3 HR, 6 RBI) of the Reds; Houston's Morgan Ensberg (.400, 3 HR, 3 RBI); David Eckstein (.409, 1 HR, 3 RBI), Albert Pujols (.480) and Scott Rolen (.412, 4 RBI) of the Cardinals; Colorado's Jeff Francis (1-0, 0.00 ERA) and Brian Fuentes (0-0, 0.00 ERA, 4 SV); Brad Penny (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 4 SO) of the Dodgers; San Diego's Adrian Gonzalez (.500, 2 HR, 4 RBI), Kevin Kouzmanoff (.316, 3 HR, 7 RBI), Trevor Hoffman (0.00 ERA, 4 SV) and Jake Peavy (2-0, 0.69 ERA, 14 SO); and Ryan Klesko (.474) and Bengie Molina (.400, 10 H, 8 RBI) of the Giants.
