Oregon to Hold Annual Weightlifting Competition Saturday

EUGENE, Ore. - Some of the strongest athletes in the western United States will be present when the University of Oregon’s intercollegiate strength and conditioning program hosts the 16th annual Weightlifting Classic Saturday, June 2nd, in the Casanova Center weight room.

International, national and Olympic competitors will be present for the competition, which will take place from about 11:00 a.m. through 2:30 p.m.

In addition, University of Oregon athletes who will compete include the Ducks star running back Jonathan Stewart, who holds the school record for power clean by a running back at 407 lbs., and fellow running back Andiel Brown will also take part in the competition which will feature approximately 20 competitors.

The event will mark the first weight lifting competition for both.

The total score of the competition will be awarded based on the aggregate weight from two lifts (snatch as well as clean and jerk).

Weigh-ins for the competition will take place from 9-10 a.m. on the first floor of the Casanova Center.
