Nov-12-2006 10:34Men's Wrestling: Ducks Pearch, Lee Place at Cowboy OpenSalem-News.com SPORTSKyle Bounds and Bryan Cantrell both reached the quarterfinals of the main draw before falling, and they both compiled 2-2 records on the day.
LARAMINE, Wyo. - Ronnie Lee placed second in the 157 lbs. draw and Justin Pearch placed fourth in the 141 lbs. bracket during the Cowboy Open, held Saturday at the fieldhouse on the University of Wyoming campus. Lee, the redshirt sophomore out of Medford, Ore., lost a close decision in the title match against the unattached Brandon Browne, a starter at Nebraska, 6-4. Pearch would be forced to withdraw from the third place match due to injury. The Estacada, Ore. native compiled a 6-2 record during the tournament, including a tech fall in the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket. "Ronnie did a great job wrestling as hard as anyone on our team and forced his opponent to match his intensity," Kearney said. "In the final he took a tough judgment call against him and that sent the match into overtime. It was a great effort and we were pleased with it." Kyle Bounds and Bryan Cantrell both reached the quarterfinals of the main draw before falling, and they both compiled 2-2 records on the day. "We had alot of opportunities to compete today and we had some highlights and noticed some things that we still have to work on," head coach Chuck Kearney said. "Our youth showed up in letting some matches go that we should have won. We wrestled hard and were aggressive, but we made some mistakes and we'll get back in the practice room on Monday and work hard at improving.
