EUGENE - An electric performance by University of Oregon freshman Tajuan Porter sparked his Duck teammates as they overwhelmed Portland State, 116-68, in the final game of the Basketball Travelers Classic. Porter scored 38 points, hitting 12-14 shots from the field, including an Oregon-record 10-12 from three-point range. Porter also made 4-4 free throws, had five assists and two steals. Porter was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament after averaging 31 points per game. The Vikings went 1-2 in the tournament, shooting extremely well in the victory over Lehigh, but very poorly in losses to Oregon and Cal State Northridge. PSU started well against the Ducks, taking a quick 5-0 lead. Included was a three-pointer by forward Juma Kamara. But the Vikings proceeded to miss their next 18 shots from behind the arc as Oregon was off to the races. Porter had 19 in the first half, including a two-thirds court three-pointer at the halftime horn. At that point, the Ducks led 48-31. The second half turned into an all-out rout, as Oregon scored 68 points and pulled away to a 48-point victory. Oregon finished the game shooting .500 from the field, including a school-record 17-32 from three-point range. The Ducks also outrebounded the Vikings, 49-32. Meanwhile, PSU just couldn't find the mark a day after hitting 56% in a win over Lehigh. The Vikings shot .353 from the field, and were just 2-25 from behind the arc. The 116 points allowed were the most since PSU gave up 141 in a 141-84 loss to Lamar in 1980. Scott Morrison played well for Portland State with 16 points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots. He was also named to the All-Tournament team after totaling 41 points, 17 rebounds and seven blocks in the three games. Deonte Huff and Dupree Lucas each scored 15 points for the Vikings.
