CORVALLIS - The Oregon State women’s golf team has signed Cara Freeman of San Juan Capistrano, Calif., to a letter-of-intent for the 2007-08 school year, head coach Rise Lakowske announced Tuesday.

She tied for 13th out of 124 golfers at this week’s California state regional championship, narrowly missing out on a spot in the state finals.

She won the South Coast League championship twice and was a four-time all-league selection. She also made the Orange County Register’s all-county second team twice.

“We are very excited to have a player with Cara’s experience and talent join our program,” Lakowske said. “She is a solid ball striker and can hit her drives an average of 270 yards.”

Freeman has won 24 tournaments in her career, including the Washington junior state title in 2000.

She has three top five finishes on the AJGA circuit. She was ranked 11th among California’s seniors by the NJGS and 60th in the nation by the AJGA. She was named a 2005-06 Future Collegians World Tour second-team All-American.

In 2005, she qualified and played in the 2005 WalMart First-Tee Open at Pebble Beach.
