CORVALLIS - The most contested rivalry on the West Coast and seventh-most played in Division I football continues Friday at Reser Stadium.

The 110th Civil War, will be nationally televised by FSN beginning at 12:30 PM PST -- kickoff is scheduled for 12:40 PM PST.

The game is also worth two points in the Northwest Dodge Dealers Civil War Series, an annual intercollegiate competition between OSU and UO.

WHAT’S AT STAKE?

Several scenarios can play out over the next two weeks. A win by Oregon State would ensure it third place in the Pac-10 and possibly a tie for second with California, should the Bears lose next week at home to 1-10 Stanford.

A win by Oregon could generate a four-team tie for third with Arizona if it wins Saturday at home against Arizona State and with UCLA if it wins Dec. 2nd at the Rose Bowl against USC.

BOWL TALK:

Both the Beavers and Ducks are heading to bowl games.

A win Friday would give OSU a strong case to play in the 73rd Brut Sun Bowl, a game the program has never played in. The Sun Bowl has the third selection behind the Rose and the Pacific Life Holiday Bowls.

Other than the Rose Bowl Pac-10 partner Bowls do not have to select in order of finish.

Other bowl possibilities for OSU include the Holiday Bowl, Pioneer Las Vegas Bowl, The Emerald Bowl in San Francisco and the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl in Honolulu.

OLDEST RIVALRIES:

Here is a closer look at rivalries that exceed the Civil War at the Division I level through this season:

116 games Wisconsin vs. Minnesota

111 Miami (Ohio) vs. Cincinnati

115 Kansas vs. Missouri

111 North Carolina vs. Virginia

113 Nebraska vs. Kansas 110 Civil War

113 Texas vs. Texas A&M 110 Auburn vs. Georgia

THE SERIES:

Oregon has a 55-44-10 advantage in a series that the home team has won every time since 1997. The first game in this series was played in 1894.

DEFENSIVE BATTLE?

It’s hard to imagine that the NW Dodge Civil War could be a defensive battle, considering 264 points (avg. 66) have been scored in the last four games. But, OSU enters second in the Pac-10 for total defense allowing 289.3 -- Oregon is third at 299.6.

THIS COULD BE INTERESTING:

OSU leads the nation for third-down defense allowing 26.1% (35-134) successful conversions. Oregon leads the Pac-10 and is ninth in the nation for third down conversions at 48.3% (71-147).

RECORD CROWD:

Reser Stadium officially became sold out Mon., Nov. 20th for the first time in its current 43,300 capacity. The old record is 42,960 set against Stanford last year.

THE LAST TIME:

Then No. 10 Oregon defeated Oregon State 56-14 Nov. 19th of last season at fog-shrouded Autzen Stadium in Eugene. The Ducks had 402 total yards in offense and scored 14 points in each of the four quarters.

The Beavers, playing without starting QB Matt Moore, accounted for 297 yards. Moore was injured the week before at home against Stanford.

Beaver tailback Yvenson Bernard rushed for a game-high 128 yards, quarterback Ryan Gunderson had 175 yards passing, and future Biletnikoff Award winner Mike Hass had 107 receiving yards to set a Pac-10 record with 1,532 yards for one season.

NOT EVEN CLOSE:

Oregon State set a series record scoring 50 points in the 2004 game at Reser Stadium, only to be topped by Oregon’s 56 points last season. The Beavers have averaged 47.5 points and 491.5 yards in total offense in the last two games vs. the Ducks at Reser Stadium. OSU won the 2002 game 45-24 and the 2004 game 50-21.

ARV:

Oregon State received three votes in this week’s USA Today Coaches Poll, the fifth-highest total in the “also receiving votes” category. The Beavers also received one vote in the Associated Press Poll. The Beavers were in the “ARV” category following their victories over USC and Arizona State.

SENIORS LAST GAME:

The following seniors are making their final appearance at Reser Stadium. Each will be recognized prior to kickoff Friday.

Zach Harris, OL, Portland, Oregon

Rickey Herrod, CB, Sacramento, California

Ruben Jackson, WR, Stockton, California

Adam Koets, OT, Santa Ana, California

Joe Lemma, DE, Westlake Village, Calif.

Joe Newton, TE, Roseburg, Oregon

SIX CONFERENCE WINS?

Oregon State can earn its sixth win Friday, which would be the second-most for the program in Pac-8/10 play. The 2000 Beavers went 7-1 and shared the conference title with Washington and Oregon.

ALMOST FIRST, DEFINITELY LAST:

Oregon State’s 13-game regular season schedule ends Dec. 2nd, starting at 9:06 PM PST at Hawaii.

The game marks the final contest of the 2006 college football regular season.

The Beavers also participated on opening day, Thurs., Aug. 31st.

OSU, Connecticut, New Mexico State, Louisiana-Monroe, Florida International and San Diego State are the only programs to play on the first and last day of the season.

I hope this is seen by lots of people, becouse nobody is talking about this! The ducks have dropped two in a row, but the losses they had this season were all extremly close games last season. First the ducks lost to cal this year. They got whomped. But think about it, it was an overtime game last year and the ducks barley survived. Then after lossing to cal this year they lost to WSU, who the ducks once again barley beat last season. They were able to stop WSU at the last second. This year they once again got whomped. Then this seson lost to USC, wich I dont even have to get into everyone should know. Then the brutal loss to arizona came this year. Last year That once again was a game that came down to the wire, with a haberrley interseption. The ducks are the same team that they were last year, with just a few less breakes than they had last season. But im sure something beav fans have in there minds is that oregon crushed OSU last season 56-14. Im thinking that Oregon breakes the civil war road drought winning it 42-28
