CORVALLIS - Oregon State men’s basketball coach Jay John announced Tuesday that junior forward Sasa Cuic has been suspended indefinitely.

Cuic (Rijeka, Croatia) started the first four games, then came off the bench in OSU’s loss at Hawaii on Sunday.

Cuic is averaging 10.6 points per game.

He emerged as OSU’s go-to player as a sophomore last year averaging a team-high 13.5 points (13th in the Pac-10).

Cuic led the conference in three-point percentage (49.3%), a figure that ranks second in school history, averaged 4.5 rebounds in 26.2 minutes and shot 49.0% from the floor (seventh in the Pac-10).

The Beavers next have a two-game road trip to Northern Colorado Friday and Montana State on Sunday.

Additionally, John announced that true freshman Lathen Wallace (Portland, Ore./Jefferson HS) will redshirt the 2006-07 season.

“We really like Lathen, there are just a lot of guys at shooting guard that are ahead of him right now,” John said. “He has a very promising future ahead of him. A redshirt year, in the long run, will help him to have a more accomplished career.”

Wallace did not appear in any of OSU’s first five games. He was an all-state first team selection last year as a high school senior after averaging 24.5 points per game.
